Praised by Musicweb International for her playing “informed by intelligence and profound musicianship”, American-Dutch violinist Sarah Kapustin enjoys a rich and varied musical career as soloist, chamber musician, concertmaster and teacher. She has appeared in such prestigious concert venues as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Cité de la Musique in Paris, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Philharmonie in Berlin, Mexico City’s Sala Nezahualcoyotl, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, and Capella State Hall in St. Petersburg. She performs and tours regularly with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Ensemble Resonanz (Hamburg) and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. 2025 marks her 40th year playing the violin, which she is celebrating by releasing six live video recordings of the Bach works for solo violin on her YouTube channel.
A devoted and passionate chamber musician, Sarah has appeared at international festivals such as Chamberfest Cleveland, Kuhmo Festival (Finland), Musique en bord de Seine (France), Sitka Festival (AK), El Paso ProMusica (TX), Aurora Festival (Netherlands) and the Marlboro Music Festival (VT) where she has performed with such distinguished artists as Claude Frank, Joseph Silverstein, David Soyer, and Kim Kashkashian. She shows great interest in contemporary music and has worked with several composers on their own compositions, including Henri Dutilleux, Kryzstof Penderecki, Jörg Widmann, Ned Rorem and Joey Roukens. Sarah’s recordings of the Beethoven sonata cycle (with Jeannette Koekkoek) and solo works by Bartók, Bach and Fulmer, among others, have received international acclaim. Sarah was the 1st violinist of the renowned Rubens Quartet from 2008 until the group's final season in 2016.
Sarah received a Master of Music in violin performance at The Juilliard School with Robert Mann in 2005. She previously received a Bachelor of Music and an Artist Diploma from Indiana University as a pupil of Mauricio Fuks and formerly studied with Mimi Zweig and James Przygocki at the String Academy of Wisconsin. After receiving a Fulbright Scholarship, she spent two years in Paris as a chamber music student of Michel Strauss and Vladimir Mendelssohn at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique.
Increasingly sought after as a teacher, Sarah is professor of violin at the ArtEZ Conservatorium (Zwolle) and the Sweelinck Academie (preparatory division of the Amsterdam Conservatory) and is a regular guest teacher at Forum Musikae in Madrid. She has given masterclasses in the US, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Columbia, Argentina and Hong Kong, and is a faculty member of the Indiana University Summer String Academy.
Currently Sarah resides in Zwolle, the Netherlands with her husband, violist Roeland Jagers, and their daughter and dog. She gratefully plays on the ”Nico Richter and Hetta Rester” G.B. Rogeri, Brescia, ca. 1690, on loan to her from the Muziekinstrumentenfonds in Amsterdam.

De Amerikaanse-Nederlandse violiste Sarah Kapustin geniet een rijke en gevarieerde carrière als solist, kamermusicus, concertmeester en pedagoog. Ze heeft opgetreden in zalen als Alice Tully Hall en Carnegie Hall in New York, Cité de la Musique (Parijs), Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Sala Nezahualcoyotl (Mexico City), Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg) en Capella State Hall in Sint Petersburg, en ze treedt vaak op met het Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Ensemble Resonanz (Hamburg) en het Scottish Chamber Orchestra. In 2025 viert ze haar veertigste jaar als violist met de release van splinternieuwe live video-opnames van alle zes solowerken van Bach op haar YouTube-kanaal.

Sarah’s affiniteit met hedendaagse muziek bracht haar in contact met belangrijke componisten als Henri Dutilleux, Kryzstof Penderecki, Jörg Widmann, Ned Rorem en Joey Roukens, met wie ze aan hun eigen composities mocht werken. Sarah’s opnames van o.a. de complete vioolsonates van Beethoven (met Jeannette Koekkoek) en solowerken van Bartók, Bach en Fulmer zijn internationaal geprezen. Sarah was van 2008 tot 2016 de primarius van het gerenommeerde Rubens Quartet.
Sarah behaalde haar Mastersdiploma aan de Juilliard School bij Robert Mann (2005). Eerder ontving ze de Bachelors- en Artistsdiploma’s van Indiana University als studente van Mauricio Fuks. Aanvankelijk had ze les van Mimi Zweig en James Przygocki aan de String Academy of Wisconsin. Dankzij een Fulbright Beurs studeerde Sarah kamermuziek in Parijs (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique) bij Michel Strauss en Vladimir Mendelssohn.
Sarah is ook in de rol van pedagoog veelgevraagd: ze is hoofdvakdocent viool aan het ArtEZ Conservatorium in Zwolle en aan de Sweelinck Academie (jong-talent afdeling van het Conservatorium van Amsterdam). Daarnaast heeft ze masterclasses gegeven in Hong Kong, Frankrijk, België, Spanje, Italië, Colombia, Brazilië en de Verenigde Staten. Sarah geeft iedere zomer les aan de Indiana University Summer String Academy.
Sarah woont in Zwolle samen met haar man, altviolist Roeland Jagers, en hun dochter en hond. Ze bespeelt de “Nico Richter en Hetta Rester” G.B. Rogeri, Brescia, ca. 1690, die haar ter beschikking is gesteld door het Muziekinstrumenten Fonds in Amsterdam.
